NASH is the most severe form of NAFLD and has been declared a major global health concern by the World Health Organization. Alongside NAFLD, NASH is a leading cause of liver disease and liver transplants in Western countries, and if not treated, may lead to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. NASH is a chronic yet silent disease with no currently approved treatment.
